Good Friday entry

This is not a reading- based entry although it should be, being that it's Good Friday. I went to services, which is the first time I've been in my church or like 9 months (bad me, but I'm weather sensitive and as far as I know my death is not on God's agenda for the moment).

I went to Good Friday services and I must say it felt really good to be in church the building. I need to actually do that more regularly. Todd, my minister, even said that maybe the church would talk to PVTA, the transit authority, about running a shuttle to the church (or maybe varied churches) on Sunday.

How cool is it that my church is willing to do that? How cool is it that my minister wears blue jeans to Good Friday service that he is conducting? Those in my opinion are all very cool things.

Here is a hard part to write, but you can't always leave the parts of yourself I'd rather not admit to out, just because your the author. I went to services because I wanted to, but I also went with an ulterior motive, I wanted to barrow the churches tent and thought that I could ask someone there. Actually, I thought at first that my minister could just give the table (but the United Church of Christ, UCC, is not hierarchical as a rule, so I don't know why I thought that.

So I came home, pouted a bit and posted the following on Facebook "hopes the weather man are wrong and knows God is on her side for either no rain or a borrowed tent. Where could my tent be?" Mere minutes later, my buddy Cherry answered my post with a tent and she's even offered to set up for me! Much to my PCA's relief, I'm sure.

I feel that this sequence of events was actually good for my faith which needed a bit of renewing I suppose, It was nice to have a prayer answered, in that short of an order. Funny how life turns out!

Leviticus 12-13

Happy Palm Sunday. I was supposed to attend church today, but the rain forecast (and the fact I need to walk all the way downtown and back is keeping me in the house, for self and chair health reasons. It is not good for people prone to lung infections to get rained on. It is not good for power chairs, either. I decided to restart this blog in honor of Palm Sunday.

At first, I read the wrong thing, but than got back on track. Chapter 12 was all about the procedures for dealing with woman who had just given birth. I find some of these procedures sexist, but it was back in the day after all. I like the fact that woman were given 33 days off after the birth of a child. We should do that now.

Chapter 13 was all about leprosy and the ways to heal or stop the spread of it. I didn't really understand that much of this chapter. It just seemed a bit repeating. The only thing that really stood out to me were that they kept talking about shutting people with leprosy up and making them not allowed to camp near anyone. This reminds me of a lot of pro-institutionalization forces and I wonder if those people who use faith as a reason people with disabilities should be locked away draw some ideas from this passage.

Entry 47: Leviticus 11

What sort of animal is Coney? The only Coney I know is Coney Island. I was surprised that rabbits won't for eating. Didn't Pioneers, who were supposed to be so pious, eat lots of rabbits? Food and drink had lots of rules back then. I thought my vegetarian or vegan friends or other Jewish friends who kept Kosher had lots of food rules, but I guess early Christians did, too. I'm glad the rules are less strict now, but I still don't want to eat a snake, even if the Lord says it's okay.

Entry 46: Leviticus 10

Dear Readers,

I was sorry for Aaron, who lost 2 sons, for no reason, as far as I could tell. Poor man to continue his worship after that. He is better than I; Had that happened to me the Lord and I would've had no manner of relationship, thereafter. I, unlike Aaron, wouldn't have been able to hold my tongue. Sorry, but you've got the wrong woman.

Entry 45: Leviticus 9

Dear Readers,

After yet another mostly pointless chapter on offering, I was excited to see the Lord appear at the end. Like all the Israelites, I would fall on my face as well. I can only imagine the experience! I wish to have such an experience, but I've only had a Near Death Expience (NDE).

Entry 44: Leviticus 8

Dear Readers,

I am happy to report that I had a productive day of dance, writing, and discussion. Some scientist at Upenn believes apparently that free will doesn't exist. My question is if I don't decide who/what does? God, the devil, the universe? How does this theory account for learned behavior such as I tried this, it went badly, won't be doing that again.

Leviticus 8 was all about how Aaron and his sons got to be priests and the rituals they had to undergo, including having blood put upon them. I'm glad I don't share that duty.

Entry 43: Leviticus 7

Dear Readers,

More talk of offerings... The biggest deal in my opinion would be "to be cut off from his people". To be that sounds like shunning. I would think that shunning behavior would be reserved for pedophilia, murder, arson, and so on. This doesn't seem to be the case here as the offense mentioned weren't that severe.
